The Leather Industry Revival Initiate Summit, Niger

by Zainab Ashadu

I was invited to take part in this very exciting summit in Abuja this week. I was so glad that I was able to make it, as I learned an incredible amount! The Leather sector is second only to our Oil and Gas but has been completely ignored, till now. The best part of the summit so far, is that everyone is the sector is well represented; from artisans to designers to factory owners and policy makers.

These traditional poufs are hand made in Northern Nigeria using vegetable dyed goatskins. This natural and gold combination is my absolute favourite.

I'm very inspired by these hand tooled undyed natural goatskin leather bags. They are tooled by women in Northern Nigeria.
